The proposed York1 facility…

Comment

The proposed York1 facility is extremely close to the town of Dresden and has significant impacts not only on the environment, but nearby properties, infrastructure and health. The amount of waste and recyclable materials that is being proposed to this facility will amount to over 2.5 million tonnes per year making this one of the busiest waste facilities in the province. This town is a small town of about 2,500 residents, which is surrounded by agricultural land and rural roads. We are not near any main highway artillery, meaning all trucks going in and out of this facility would cross our rural roads which would impact pedestrian and traffic safety. Our infrastructure can not handle the increase of traffic. The noise and air quality of this facility that plans to operate 24/7 would have a significant impact on the health of Dresden residents. The impacts to surface and ground water would be detrimental to our area. The homes that surround the proposed York1 waste facility are on well water and Mollys Creek and the Sydenham River surround this property as well. York1 has no consideration for the human health risk that this facility would cause nor the natural heritage that surrounds the area and the impacts that this facility would have on that. This facility will be less than 1km away from the town of Dresden, new landfills must be 3.5km away. The impacts on air, water, human health, natural habitats and economic loss is substantial therefore this facility should be stopped. This is not a good fit for Dresden, there are other areas in Ontario that are a better fit that would have less impact on all areas that have been stated above.
