It is unconscionable that the Minister has flipped back and forth on the Waterloo Region’s well researched and visionary land use plan that would preserve agrarian areas and protect the Regional Recharge area from urban development. Development will reduce the amount of water reaching the aquifers by a significant amount threatening the quantity of water supply to the Region. Road development would lead to salting in the winter that would threaten the quality of our water supply. Ironically, building more homes in the recharge area could mean less homes that can be built elsewhere in the region unless we build a pipeline to Lake Erie. I’m hopeful that good sense will prevail to limit any land development in the Regional Recharge area.
