I do not agree with what the PC government has proposed regarding the cancellation of the carbon pricing. We need real agreessive climate action especially with the UN report which highlights the need to action. We need to care for environmental stewardship and carbon pricing is an ideal platform and system to do that. Reducing pollution through applying taxes/ costs reflecting the true cost associated with the pollution which will steer people or businesses to choose or behave differently. Penalizing polluters so that there is incentive to do better and the Funds going back into a system to stimulate other clean initiatives or back into the people’s pockets. Carbon pricing can be economically progressive and stimulating and provides the catalyst for people and businesses to do things differently for the better.
I certainly would rather have higher gas pricing to ensure a future, which I believe science is showing looks very bleak right now for our children.
I want Ontario to put a price on pollution, making polluters pay for their emissions and the money raised to stimulate further projects and other systemic changes. We need to abide by the Paris agreement, as well as, the federal agreement for carbon pricing. We need to stop supporting old outdated fossil fuel industries and embrace and support a clean energy economy to create a sustainable, Ontario self-reliant future to ensure stability in our future 10-20-50 years or really 7 generations down the road. I’m looking long term for our children, I’m not looking to save a couple bucks at the pump.
