The idea of a landfill being built so close to a town is nothing new for instance the WM landfill near Petrolia and also near the town of Watford are two that stick out in our rural area of Ontario. However the landfill proposal for Dresden will be built alongside a fragile aquatic habitat known as the Sydenham River. The landfill site will have Mollys Creek flowing through or very near to it any contaminants that enter this creek will only have to travel a few hundred meters from the site before entering the Sydenham River. The Sydenham is a fragile aquatic habitat containing many species of aquatic wildlife near to extinction and also some species that can only be found in this watershed system. As an avid outdoorsman and a concerned citizen of Chatham Kent I ask that the Ontario ministry of environment please step in and consider not only the residents of Dresden but also the fragile ecosystem that will also be in direct distress from the proposed landfill project.
