As an environmental and biological science educated citizen with a master's degree, I have followed this issue of climate change for years and am very concerned by the change in direction by this Ford government on environmental policy.
* I want Ontario to be 100% powered by clean energy by 2050 and
* I want Ontario to end subsidies and handouts for fossil fuel companies and redirect this money to clean energy solutions.
Scientists have been sounding the alarm since the 1980's. There's been a lot of push back from those that benefit from the status quo, leaving scientists to gather facts and more facts to prove climate change is at a crisis point.
'This week, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned that global warming must be contained to a maximum of 1.5 degree Celsius within the next 12 years, or risk further extreme weather'

Nearly half a century of facts have already been accumulated. Even in the 1990's scientists, and even economists, have warned the longer we wait, the more expensive it will be. We've waited too long already. Plus we are shutting the door to the possibility of reversing the trend back to a more stable "human-friendly" climate. We have about 10 years to fix this. TEN years. And with this bill Ontario just took a big leap backward.
