I do not support this bill. Bill 4 seeks to eliminate law that was improving the environment for everyone. Climate data shows that the year 2016 saw the lowest emissions in Ontario since 1990, despite increases in population and GDP; this gives us compelling evidence that the Cap and Trade program was working to create a better Ontario for everyone that breathes here. When Bill 4 was proposed, we had not yet seen the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a "sobering report this week detailing the dramatic effects of climate change and the immediate steps we need to take to make significant progress on limiting warming in the future." They go on to say, "The report makes it clear that apathy and inaction are no longer viable options...Unprecedented action is needed by both the public and private sector to transform our energy, transportation and other systems around the world." They then ask: "Could this report finally be the clarion call to our nation’s business leaders to take responsibility for ensuring a prosperous and clean energy future for all?" No leader that wants a clean and prosperous future can support this bill, as the two stand in opposition. Many people have suggested the IPCC report was positive, as it states that we have a chance at limiting climate change. That chance, however, rests upon POLITICAL WILL. This bill shows no political will to work towards improving our natural environment. Furthermore, the loss of revenue from the Cap and Trade seems highly problematic when the government proposing Bill 4 could use the income from this program to incentivize green energy programs, thereby helping us get to our goal of a healthier/cleaner Ontario faster. Why replace an effective program with a new one?

I want a real climate change plan to reduce emissions, help people save energy and create jobs in the $26 trillion clean economy.
I want Ontario to put a price on pollution, making polluters pay for their emissions and returning the revenues to the pockets of Ontarians so they can lower their carbon footprint. I want legally binding emissions targets in line with our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement. I want Ontario to be 100% powered by clean energy by 2050. I want Ontario to end subsidies and handouts for fossil fuel companies and redirect this money to clean energy solutions.
