The extension of the heritage property listings for two years is a good first step, but municipalities are strained beyond breaking. In our region, three of them have no dedicated heritage planner and a number of listings to consider for designation. Heritage planning is still not a priority for some municipal governments and the elimination of the limited protection could result in significant demolition of important properties.
The provision to delete listed properties should be cancelled so that significant heritage shall be preserved, as per government policy.
