It is imperative that all electricity customers, not just those in Class A, be allowed to participate in virtual net metering. This will help to expand electricity supply in Ontario, grow Ontario's economy by generating a valuable resource in our province, and generate jobs in construction and maintenance of those facilities.
Solar power for example - the cover topic of this week's The Economist - is the cleanest way to meet growing needs for electricity and to keep Ontario competitive with other industrialized economies. Clean energy can also improve our local health, reduce health care costs, and make our environment safer. Allowing solar virtual net metering for rural users, including agriculture, is also cheaper than building out costly and extensive infrastructure.
I would like to see us stop supporting systems that are a drag on personal and small business power requirements, and also those of the growing philanthropic and non-profit sector that takes on so much community service, and personal care, that the government chooses not to engage in directly.
