Implementation of Bill 4, Cap and Trade Cancellation Act, is a decision that will affect the lives of Canadians in the current and future generations through its implication on climate change mitigation.

The effects of climate change will influence Canadian resources that our economy currently depends on. Agriculture, tourism, and fisheries are some of the economic sectors that will likely be affected by changes in climate. How would Canada's GDP be influenced with a decline in the productivity of these sectors? These are some of the concerns that come to mind when the Ontario provincial government chooses to implement the Bill 4 Cap and Trade Cancellation Act.

Bill 4 is a short sighted Act that does not consider the long term benefits considered in the implementation of the Climate Change Mitigation and Low-carbon Economy Act in 2016. The government, businesses, and any other users of fossil fuels have a role to play in the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions. Climate change is a political challenge that requires action from the government in order for any changes to occur within the economic system as a whole.

By implementing Bill 4, the Ontario government is not taking the political stance needed from Canada to take action towards playing its part in reducing the global greenhouse gas emissions. This is unethical and is not representative of the contribution that Canada can make to the global economy as a global citizen.

As a young adult with a bachelor and Master's degree in Environmental Science and Engineering, I am writing to you to state that I am not in favour of implementing Bill 4, Cap and Trade Cancellation Act. I envision Canada to be a leader in implementing regulations that are in favour of mitigating climate change, which will thereby reduce further damage to the natural resources upon which our economy relies on. I call upon the Ontario government to read the latest report published by the IPCC, which summarizes the potential impacts of a 1.5C global warming.
