My high sense of urgency for immediate and effective action against climate change has heightened with the recent IPCC report. I find it very difficult to comment on the opposite of action - removal of action - when there is no indication of an effective, binding replacement. Other than to express dismay.
The winners of the 2018 Nobel prize for Economics explain the requirement of a carbon price for substantial progress combating climate change. Paying for pollution that is threatening our civilization is an appropriate use of market forces to encourage positive innovation. Removal of a price will cost well-paying and numerous clean energy and conservation-related jobs. With each delay in effective action, the costs to future generations multiply to levels far above the cost of acting now.
This bill wastes the effort that went into creating the cap-and-trade and, as such, is, I feel, a highly irresponsible use of taxpayer money, as well as adding to the burden of future taxpayers dealing with the devastation of climate change.
