The provincial government has no place hindering municipalities' creation of bike lanes or even thinking about removing this essential city infrastructure. This is infrastructure that saves lives and saves the environment. The network of bike lanes in my city is one of the things I love the most about it and that makes me proudest and happiest to live here. I can't even fathom having these beloved and well-used bike lanes removed in favour of more car lanes. This proposal is on par with the historic removal of Ottawa's street car system - it feels like a short-sighted move in the wrong direction, and one that we would end up deeply regretting. Everyone -- even car drivers -- will benefit if we make it easier and safer for people to choose to bike.
