I am extremely surprised and appalled at the OLT's decision to rule in favour of the biosolid storage facility.

This storage facility is setting a precedent. If approved, it would be the first of its kind in Ontario.
The current proposed site plan is NOT sufficient to deal with the concerns of area residents.
If the storage facility were fully enclosed, that would help to mitigate our concerns by fully containing the biosolids as well as maintaining humidity controls which would then reduce dust, odour and the risk of spontaneous combustion.
Some Items for Consideration:primary consideration may be to minimize the volume of potential storm water runoff.
Solution to reduce the volume of runoff would be to have a fully enclosed facility with full walls and a permanent roof, including for the loading and unloading areas.
Extreme weather events are becoming more common.
On August 23, 2023, the property for the proposed site received 6 inches of rain in less than 3 hours.
Fields were flooded. Roads were flooded. Rivers were flooded. The natural runoff for this property is straight downhill into the Sydenham River.
A structure with full walls and permanent roof would be better able to handle these types of weather events.
The storm water runoff would be a significantly lower volume to deal with if the biosolids were completely contained.

There are residents living in close proximity to the area with drinking water wells right beside the Sydenham river. This runoff during floods would affect the drinking water of residents making water unsafe to drink. Safe water is a right for every person on the planet as per the United Nations, (see below) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
This biosolids facility would infringe on this basic right.
Do you the OLT committee really feel that you're making the right decision when these issues listed above have been brought to your attention and list these grave concerns affecting public health for those living close to this facility? We only ask that you do the right thing for health of the environment for the Sydenham River, wild life and the people.

In 2002, the United Nations officially adopted water as a human right. General Comment 15, of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights states the following: “The human right to water entitles everyone to sufficient, safe, acceptable, physically accessible and affordable water for personal and domestic uses.” This means that the 145 countries who have endorsed the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights have to ensure fair and equal access to safe drinking water.

Research has brought attention to the emerging environmental health risks associated with the land application of biosolids. This knowledge adds credence to the argument that the run off of Biosolids from floods into the Sydenham River poses environmental health risks. See title of research article attached. (Peer reviewed journal).

I sincerely hope that you will truly serve the people and make a decision based on the good of the people and their rights and the good of the environment.
