Bill 212 is in conflict with the autonomy of democratically elected municipal governments.
The authority to decide where to remove motor vehicle traffic lanes in favour of bike lanes should rest with the municipal government, alone. Municipalities are better informed about their own roadways to be making such decisions than the provincial government.
Additionally, no evidence has been provided that repurposing vehicle lanes into bike lanes does indeed increase traffic. Per person, vehicles take up far more space than bikes and other modes of transport do. If congestion and gridlock is the concern, then there should be more investment into public transit and other means of commuting like bike lanes.
Please, come to your senses and shut down the proposal for this problematic bill.
