It is absurd for Ontario to repeal the existing Climate Change Mitigation and Low-carbon Economy Act of 2016 or to wind down the Cap and Trade Program. These programs are efficient and effective. This action will cost millions of dollars, immediately due to repaying investments made by companies paying into the Cap and Trade Program, and later, due to the worsened effects of climate change resulting from delayed action by the province. It is likewise absurd to spend time developing replacement plans and policies, wasting valuable time that should be spent curbing greenhouse gas emissions through existing programs. Bill 4 is antithetical to the prosperity of Ontarians both today and for the next century at least, based on the life span of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. As the UN IPCC's report published this week states, we have a mere twelve years to take serious action on climate change, and we cannot afford to move backwards. Please engage your sense of reason, your compassion, and your common sense, and do not pass Bill 4.
