I'm a driver and a cyclist. As a driver, I really appreciate the dedicated bike lanes because it means I'm not going to hit cyclists. This year, Toronto has already had 6 cyclist deaths, and many of them could have been prevented with dedicated bike lanes/no barriers in the bike lanes (as in the garbage bin on Bloor that blocked the lane and led to the cyclist's death). As a cyclist, without the bike lanes I'll be forced into traffic. Honestly, it's a huge waste of money and resources for infrastructure the city has just completed. The city went through intensive consultations and studies to ensure the bike lanes made sense - just leave them as is. The issues with traffic are with unplanned/poorly planned construction, the volume of cars on the road due to a crappy TTC and GO options, and if you look at the DVP, 401 etc. that's where the volume is and there are no bike lanes there. Why not focus on things like healthcare, education and housing? That's literally what Ontarians care about! Stay in your lane.
