As the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers and many others have agreed, getting rid of bike lanes will not reduce traffic/gridlock but will actively make it worse. If you get rid of Ontarian’s ability to safely choose transportation methods other than biking, you increase the dependency on cars. This will increase the number of cars on the roads and negatively affect traffic times and our environmental impact on the world. Bike lanes are typically 1m wide, cars are 1.7m wide on average. As a result removing a bike lane won’t even create the room required to make another lane for more cars to fit on the road. This bill goes against any form of common sense and exists only to make the world a worse place.
