Diversity of wildlife and plant life are key components in ensuring a healthy, abundant, and stable environment. The proposal to replace natural environments with housing developments threatens the organisms' ability to carry out their regular activities, as construction and increasing human activities would introduce new levels or carbon, noise, and light pollution that would disturb the surrounding wildlife.
Additionally, limiting organism to their "core" needs is not sustainable, especially if an external force that is outside the control of the proponent and/or the government were to threaten those core needs/places. There would be no buffer to give the organisms a chance to recover/survive if they are theatened, poisoned, or otherwise damaged. This would then contribute to the already on-going crisis of the domino-effect that is the shinkage of biodiversity, in which we lose indicator species (i.e. a species that can indicate a decrease/increase in habitat health/activity), endangered/at-risk species, in addition to any ecological services these environments provide (for free!).
The world is in a global climate crisis. We need to protect whatever biodiversity and natural environments we have left and appreciate the services they already provide.
