I think this is terrible. There are so many red flags being ignored all for the sake of money and greed.
Distances from the town, the local schools, Molly's Creek and Sydenham River are all being ignored and this Environment Assessment IGNORED because the government KNOWS this proposition would never pass the Environment Assessment because the government KNOWS York1 should not be utilizing this site.
This is not a case of NIMBY. This is a case of government choosing to ignore what is right (removing environmental assessment) and abusing their position of power to do whatever they want.
No landfills or waste facilities should be set up WITHOUT environment assessments.
These landfills are a permanent creation.
They affect many generations going forth.
Have we not learned from the past?
Let's put a little more thought into what we're doing and how it will affect the future citizens of Dresden, the major watershed, the over 114 species of fish and freshwater mussels that reside in said watershed. Let's put a little more thought into the proximity to town and the 38+ confirmed chemicals. KNOWN carcinogens that are toxic to humans, plants and animals.
It is frustrating when provided with all this evidence of destruction the government is NOT coming the aid of Dresden. Environmental assessments are made for a reason. Use them.
