These proposed modifications in the form of the Species Conservation Act, 2025, are woefully underdeveloped and serve almost no role in actually conserving the environment. These guidelines restrict environmental protections in almost every way, allowing private entities to ignore the presence of endangered species and threatened ecosystems in their plans, continuing to degrade Ontario’s environment in the name of economic growth. This bill is almost insulting in its assumption that economic growth and environmental sustainability cannot coexist in a meaningful way, and is completely outmatched when put into terms of the world we find ourselves in today. This bill does not function in the best interests of Ontarians, now and in the future; and if it passes, will be a great disservice to all.
