I oppose bill 5 and the changes it proposes. While the outline in the surface looks like it is an improebt to the existing endangered species act, reading more closely, it is full of loopholes, vague proposals and an easy out for disregarding habitats and species altogether. This bill would make it easy for anyone to turn a blind eye and to push through development and personal agendas without any regard or need to consult or check in with communities, the public or conservation… unless something has been registered. While there are many operating in the conservation and with endangered species, it is common knowledge that there aren’t enough people on the ground whi are able to keep up with monitoring and reporting on a regular basis. The current endangered species act allows for monitoring and proper research to be done within a place I order to protect that species and make sure their habitats stay in protected. I say NO to bill 5- it does not reflect how Ontario should proceed. I would like to see the province of Ontario focus on repairing the broken infrastructures already developed, making what already exists better, while also keeping sustainability and conservation at the heart of all future projects and development. We live in an incredibly beautiful province, full of diversity- it is time to be the leaders on showing a better way forward.
