I am writing to express my unwavering opposition to Bill 5, the so-called Protecting Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act. This bill is nothing more than a blatant attack on environmental protections, democratic processes, and the basic rights of Ontarians — all under the guise of economic growth.

Doug Ford has already demonstrated a complete disregard for environmental responsibility and community safety. Look no further than the destruction of Ontario Place — which went ahead without an environmental assessment, despite the obvious risks. That reckless act displaced local wildlife, including coyotes, which then moved into urban areas like Liberty Village. The result? Family pets were attacked and killed, which resulted in the Coyotes being SHOT TO DEATH. All of this blood is on the hands of a government that bulldozes forward without care, caution, or conscience.

Now, through Bill 5, this government seeks to make that kind of destruction not the exception — but the norm. It aims to gut the Endangered Species Act, strip away crucial environmental oversight, and grant Cabinet secret authority to override laws in newly created “Special Economic Zones.” This is not governance — it's authoritarianism dressed up as economic policy.

Doug Ford is not “getting it done.” He is getting it destroyed — our ecosystems, our democratic checks and balances, and our public trust.

Bill 5 will have irreversible consequences for biodiversity, Indigenous rights, and community safety across the province. I demand that this bill be withdrawn immediately. Ontario deserves leadership that listens, plans, and protects — not one that paves over accountability, transparency, and wildlife in pursuit of profit.

I urge all legislators to vote NO on Bill 5, and to stand up against this government’s destructive and anti-democratic agenda.
