The proposal to remove the environmental assessment is incredibly disappointing. It is clear that this site is unfit for the project from the onset. The site was previously used as a bomb disposal site and gun range. It is too close to town, and the infrastructure cannot support such a development.

This reflects a larger issue: the throwaway culture that Ontario has adopted, along with the prioritization of the economy over the environment, human health, and safety. There is a troubling disconnect between waste disposal being a municipal responsibility, while landfills fall under provincial jurisdiction.

We can support the economy while still protecting the environment. This project is incredibly short-sighted and will have serious consequences on the local community, First Nations communities, our economy and our ecosystems. Think this through, Ontario. Our children deserve better.
