I reject Bill 66.
As a 60 year old lifelong Ontario resident, I ask the government to try again with its open for business amendments. The amendments to existing legislative ground water and greenbelt protections is frightening. I do not want the carefully crafted ground water protections under s. 39 of the Clean Water Act being circumvented. Business cannot be promoted at the risk of permanently disabling or killing Ontario's residents. Can't they remember what happened in Walkerton? I am frankly astonished that the government thinks this bill benefits the people of Ontario; it does not. Businesses could care less about damaging my kidneys. We cannot allow this bill to do away with advance public notice and comment and any chance of appealing a municipality's decision approving a business that could put our ground water at risk. Do we still live in Canada? I will not support a government who does this to its people. I am also deeply troubled by the removal of protections under the Planning Act that puts our agricultural sector at risk along with our protected greenbelts. No business is worth the risks this proposed legislation creates. Remember Lac Megantic? Does this government want a human disaster to be its legacy? Please, please, please, try again.
