Thank you for finally…

Thank you for finally injecting some solid, practical common sense. When the new Growth Plan came out, we looked at the mapping for both the City of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Peterborough. It was totally ridiculous in terms of the natural heritage and prime agricultural land designations. I attended an open house in Peterborough and asked MNRF and MofAg staff as to how it was established - what was the science? How can all of northern Peterborough county be prime ag land? They had no answers, other than a computer generated it based on some weird science and then the Liberal political masters ordered it be done. Same story with the MNRF - even staff could not support or explain the mapping. It was like someone used a paint spray gun to conduct land use planning and create a map. Everyone wants to protect real natural areas and good farm land, but the approach used in the latest version of the Growth plan made no sense. Keep doing what you are doing! Finally someone realizes that there is life outside the GTA - it needs support to keep people employed, build houses, grow the economy. These changes, to inject flexibility and open the door to good development, are long overdue. Working as a consultant in aggregate development, I know from first hand experience with local municipalities that they too will support these changes. If these go thru, I know that many of my clients may finally take a look at expanding their business. Take the same approach with the Provincial Standards for Aggregate applications. It needs work as well.
