I echo the call for this…

I echo the call for this government to adopt & implement the recommendations contained in "A Call for Public Safety: Addressing Nuclear Risks on the Great Lakes" and find no good reasons why the Ontario & federal governments consistently drag their feet around this issue when Chernobyl & Fukushima present crystal clear examples of the possibilities inherent in the operation of nuclear power plants.

The support of corporate interests & profits above the health & well being of millions of human beings & the environment is, in my opinion, atrocious. The Ontario government in particular displays support for people only in the aftermath of intense public pressure on issues, such as Hydro One rates & cutoffs.

I fully support the call for the provincial government to ensure nuclear emergency response plans are in place to: • Protect people from Fukushima-scale accidents;

• Protect vulnerable communities;

• Protect drinking water;

• Ensure transparency and public participation;

• Meet or exceed international best practices.

Use a Fukushima-scale radioactive release as the baseline “reference accident” for determining offsite protective measures, such as alerts, evacuation, and potassium iodide (KI) pre-distribution.

I live near the Madawaska decommissioned Mine & Mill site. The operation of this mine in the late 1950's to the early 1960's was a typical example of corporate profits placed well above public interests. Yet today I see more attention being put into the cleanup & protection of the environment at this decommissioned site than I see the Ontario government displaying regarding the much larger danger posed by the existing & still operating nuclear plants that are well past their engineered lifetime.

Is this going to continue to be the legacy of Ontario governments, showing far more concern for corporate profits than people? Shame on "our elected representatives" serving the few at the top in clear preference to the many, future generations & the planet that is our only home. There is no planet "B".
