Conservations Authority (CAs) provide many services and functions that are not captured within this document and could be viewed as omitted due to the vagueness of the changes in the new act. People of all political sides enjoy the spaces CAs maintain and protect and it would be disservice to the people of Ontario to limit the ability of CAs further in their mandate to protect our environment, natural spaces and water resources. These assets are not only vital to local habitat but help to maintain health lifestyles via the physical and mental health benefits access to a thriving green space can provides.
The government of Ontario needs to consider the risk in reducing the regulatory powers of CAs in protecting life, property and other assets given the number of liability suits currently before the courts. Some of which the Government of Ontario is the defendant. Regardless of ones policy view of climate change, more precipitation is occurring bringing more properties within the flood risk catchment. To ensure reduce risk, the Province of Ontario needs to continue to support CAs mandate in ensuring flood risk is minimized as much as possible even is a changing climate.
