When we observe water crises like the one in South Africa this year, and listen to the warnings of scientists around the world, the obvious takeaway is that water is the world's most precious commodity and one that should be protected at all costs. Quality water is the foundation of life and hence economic growth. Endangering our water supply for immediate financial gain is very short-sighted. The future success of the region depends on quality water. I fully realize that studies put forward by Dufferin Aggregates, or individuals who have a private interest in its success, may indicate that taking 1.6 million litres a day to wash aggregate will do minimal harm. However, any risk to our water supply is not wise. Sacrificing responsible future use of our natural resources for immediate and temporary gain is unacceptable. Please deny this permit request.
