I would like to make two recommendations that would reduce the number of NIMBY confrontations as well reduce the impact of aggregate extraction on potential water sources.
1. When a housing development is proposed close to an area identified as containing sufficient aggregate to be feasible to mine, that in the contract with the builder this be stipulated. That way in the future if the area is developed no one can complain as they knew the possibilities.
2. No pits are allowed below the water table unless it is proven that the excavation will not impact the municipal water supply currently in place or potential sites where the municipality has not ruled out the volume of water for future needs. Global Warming will impact our future need for clean water and we should not impact it unless we have proof that it is surplus to our current and future needs.
