I’ve been thinking about this frequently since you posted it. I’m totally supportive of the extension and for permanent tenure for the cottagers. What confuses me is the need for public consultation on the question.
It seems to me that the cabinet already has all the authority necessary to extend the temporary lease and to make tenure permanent without additional public comment.
I encourage the cabinet ministers to move forward with their plans and stop allowing procedural hurdles to slow things down. The process has already been exercised many times and come out in favor of keeping the cottages and cottagers forever.
Make the extension automatic with no paperwork required and complete the process for permanent tenure.
