As a long time independant forestry contractor (42 yrs) I have witnessed many bust cycles. 1982, 1990, 2000, and the worst ever, 2008. The industry recovers, but never to the previous level, always short. So boom inbetween bust is a misnomer. This latest threat, theendless duplication of regulations is not welcomed or needed. The concerns can be addressed under the existing CFSA.
Up to this point, Canada has limited manufacturing, We are a cold weather sprawling low population country of immense size and resources. We have been hewers of wood and drawers of water, dependant on our natural resources for the GNP numbers to pay for our government and run the country. The east coast economy was decimated with the collapse of the cod fishery. Seems like that eas a failure of the canadian government to protect and properly regulate. The seeming moratorium on any new pipeline construction has added to westertn canada's woes, and the bottom line. Forestry has always been a huge driver of the economy, and after all these yrs is in serious trouble. Why cant we do a better job?
