I strongly believe that the government should NOT be requiring LESS of developers when it comes to providing parks and community centres as amenities when residential development takes place. And developers should provide sufficient classroom space in existing schools or new school buildings when population density intensifies. And yes, many families live in high rises. First of all, providing less green space, community centres and school spaces will allow our vibrant city to become an ugly place. Secondly neighbourhoods will not feel like neighbourhoods without public gathering spaces and amenities. Using the almighty dollar as the only measuring stick of success produces an uncaring atmosphere and discourages public engagement. Public engagement is necessary for the safety of our homes and communities and for people to feel encouraged to reach out to one another with kindness , inclusion and a willingness to help when needed. I am proud of living in Toronto, and I love my community of West Lansing where neighbours are kind and where we have some green spaces for all to enjoy. Please do not allow any part of our city to devolve into a ghetto.
