Please remove schedule 3 from Bill 257. Nature club members have participated in public consultations on the drafting and updating of the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS) over the course of many years. The PPS helps to clarify planning and any changes to it should be to make it more enforceable. The PPS should not be discarded by allowing developments to be exempted from the PPS by a Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO).
All residents of Ontario have the right to participate in planning decisions and they have the right to appeal. Schedule 3 would remove the right of citizens to have any say about the way the place where they reside is developed.
There are many lands outside of the greenbelt that are good agricultural lands and there are many places with wetlands and other natural features that need to be protected by strong planning policies.
Bill 257 would remove protections for valuable lands and allow development that would have negative effects on our natural environment. If the development were appropriate, a MZO would not be needed.
Please show consideration for Ontario’s citizens and lands and remove schedule 3 from Bill 257.
