I would like to start out by saying that I believe in climate change. I believe that we are affecting the status of our planet more and more every day. The cap and trade system had been put in place to ensure that companies are not producing absurd amounts of emissions. It rewards companies that are able to be more environmentally conscious. This doesn't mean that companies that produce more emissions cannot produce more than the minimum. The system allows these companies to buy into the system either by trading with other companies that are producing lower than the minimum requirement or buying a higher cap through auctions. What I find to be the most beneficial part of the system doesn't come from the auction portion of the system. What I love about this system is the government programs that are funded through it. For one, GreenON. Yes, there are many issues with this program. But, the system allows homeowners to participate in rebate programs which in term help the government. No system is perfect. But that is why it is the government's job to fix the current system rather than remove it entirely.
