We just had TWO tornadoes in the Ottawa area, with golf ball sized hail, and there have been forest fires & flooding across the country.

Many of the businesses in this province have realized that climate change is a serious environmental threat and are beginning to take steps to help their organizations prepare. Those which haven’t, have argued convincingly that the competitive field needs to be levelled by green incentives (cap/trade, or other) and/or carbon taxes. Relatedly, our Cleantech sector in Ontario consists of many talented organizations, but they are taking their businesses overseas (and leaving Canadian businesses in the dust in the global green economy) because there has not been enough demand domestically.

The Premier of our province, who is supposed to be a common sense forward-looking business man, is not supporting business innovation when he is removing the current carbon program without a suitable alternative to install in its place. Does he want us to remain a nation reliant mainly on natural resource exports and a province reliant on supplying parts to the US auto industry?

Come on! Where are the Progressive Conservatives with some foresight for the broader Canadian economy? People: On a sinking planet we will be flooded with climate change refugees, and the world our children will inhabit will be extremely volatile environmentally.

If you see flaws in the current program, fine, but don’t eliminate it until you have a more sensible plan in place.
