This is the absolute worst thing that can be done to our province. It is short-sighted, it is irresponsible, and it is an outrage to the voters of Ontario who were promised in 2018 that the greenbelt would not be touched. We need to protect our greenbelt - it is important to the people of Ontario. Protecting our farmlands and ecologically sensitive areas should trump creating more urban sprawl. This is a slippery slope. Instead of the false narrative that we desperately need housing, why don’t you stop speculators hoarding properties in this province, and develop lands in the city that are actually near transit and jobs. You can start with Scarborough, and the miles of old strip plazas that can be demolished. I am so disappointed in Doug Ford and this government. Farmland comes before development. We will always be growing in population, so when will this end? It’s wrong. This is being driven by back room politics with total disregard for the environment and the people of this province. We have an estimated 1.3 million vacant properties in Canada. According to stats Canada, Housing status have outpaced population growth. So spare us with the desperate need for housing. Change the laws so that infill projects are increased, and housing is actually going to families and citizens to live in, rather than wealthy investors to sit on. And spare us with the “land swap” excuse. We want to protect our environment. The government knows this but is choosing builder and banker donors over the people who elected them. This has to be stopped.
