I want to believe that our provincial government has Ontarians' best interests in mind with their Greenbelt Plan. If I'm to believe this, I have no choice but to assume our government is incredibly naive.

Sprawl solves nothing. We destroy irreplaceable ecosystems and farmlands, thereby increasing our reliance on external imports of food from increasingly further away. We build more unsustainable infrastructure that becomes impossible to finance over time once developers pull out of projects and municipalities absorb responsibility for infrastructure maintenance. We geographically disperse people further into our province. We offer them no sustainable and consistent means of transporting themselves and their families back into cities, where community and economic life is taking place, further plugging up our road infrastructure. Unsurprisingly, this will lead to the construction of more roads and highways and an increased reliance on cars to connect communities.

Please stop listening to the skewed information provided by lobby groups whose interests lie in destroying our environment for personal gain. Please listen to your community and experts who are not only telling you what they want but also how we can achieve this in a way that will bring long-term value to Ontario. Please think about your decision for our future here in this province, and choose better for us. Protect Ontario. Protect our Greenbelt.
