Thank you for providing an opportunity to comment on Proposed Amendments to the Greenbelt Plan.

It is my definitive and strong view that the Ontario Greenbelt should not be reduced. If anything, it should be expanded. The Greenbelt area is invaluable farming & natural lands and integrated natural water systems. Preserving it offers environmental & ecological benefits to all of Ontario. The protected area offers natural carbon sequestration and flood protection.

The Ontario Greenbelt should not be used for mass residential or commercial use. The current housing shortage should be addressed by increasing density in existing municipal zones.

I also have concerns about the ethics of how this change is being made. There are reports that the current Ontario Premier & Government are motivated by business relationships with longtime developers to impose the change rather than through sound environmental and social evaluation and leadership. Mr. Doug Ford promised to not reduce the Greenbelt area during his election campaign(s).

I hope you will choose to demonstrate long term stewardship, even though it might be more challenging.
