I understand the need for more housing within Ontario, but there are many better ways to achieve this goal than to reduce the public's ability to comment on development projects. This legislation puts the burden of infrastructure on municipalities rather than developers, meaning a further squeeze on an already taxed municipal system across this country. This will only negatively impact public services and goods such as community centers, parks, roads, and sewage infrastructure.
Instead of making it easier for developers to shirk their responsibilities, why can't we lean on them in this time of our country's need? With the astronomical real estate prices in the past few years, developers have made an incredible amount of money. At least a third of that money should be used to contribute to offset the costs incurred by businesses, and the municipality.
We need density driven planning ideas rather than opening up spaces far outside of cities where only those with financial and transportation privilege could buy.
