My thoughts on this proposal that is that it poses too many risks to biodiversity, water quality and increased flooding. It is extremely important to protect Ontario’s wetlands at all costs for the vast variety of ecosystem services in which they provide.
Development to accommodate more housing needs to build up in cities and not out into wetlands and rural areas.
Key points for why wetlands need to be protected and not developed:
- support biodiversity
- support water quality
- carbon sequestration
- flood prevention
