The goal of creating more and affordable housing in Ontario is a laudable one but the method by which the Government is seeking to accomplish this goal - Bill 23 - needs substantive revisions following meaningful consultation with municipalities and citizens.
Ontario's Auditor General (AGO) released the Value for Money Audit in 2021. The AGO Audit critiqued land use planning and development in effect in the Greater Golden Horseshoe prior to Bill 23, and is even more applicable now. One of the AGO's recommendations is to increase density in areas that are already developed and serviced - vertical proliferation - instead of developing land that is either environmentally or agriculturally important.
Please take the time to listen to municipalities and citizens and then revise Bill 23 to develop more and affordable housing in a way that will not harm the physical and financial health of current and new citizens, the environment and municipalities.
Thank you.
