This is not what the public wants. The Ford government already tried this once and backed down due to public pressure, claiming it wouldn't try again. Clearly this was a lie.
Taking any land out of the Greenbelt will undermine its effectiveness by creating an open season on farmland for land speculators and sprawl developers. Development on protected farmlands and wetlands will make Ontario more vulnerable to floods, at a time when the risk of environmental catastrophes rises with every year. Sprawl leads to more car dependency, at a time when we need to be doing everything we can to reduce carbon emissions. There is no reason to believe this will even lead to affordable housing.
This combined with Bill 23 is a sickening cash grab for a handful of the premiere's friends, and everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves.
