I am appalled that the Province would take this route moving forward. This impacts many planning processes as well as impacting green spaces. My particular concern is that there has been no thought put into the need to meet the waste management requirements for the new developments. Take composting or AD processing of organics collected in the existing built environment, never mind the fact that the Province has still not confirmed or firmed up the Organics program and proposed implementation date for it to become effective, the Province does not have the required space in the existing processing facilities to meet new demand. This is the result of several impediments in the industry but none of this has been dealt with effectively. If the Province proceeds to implement this new plan, how will the existing needs of the built environment be met in this area none the less the thousands of new tonnes of organics that will be generated? This housing plan needs to be slowed down in order to see an effective program for the disposal of organics be created. The new EPR program for the blue box materials has not yet been rolled out, and we already see issues with the new battery recycling program. What will the legacy of the push to create additional housing without the appropriate planning processes for the additional waste streams undertaken be? How will we deal with the increased waste for disposal? The Province needs to ensure that there is enough thought put into this proposal as well as funds to ensure that the Municipalities in Ontario do not become overburdened with the costs of providing the services.
