The decision to develop areas of the Green Belt is incredibly short-sighted. Ontarians need more housing, but we need more AFFORDABLE housing - when is the last time you saw a new build home in this province that would be affordable to the majority of people? We need housing that is affordable to younger generations that are struggling. Building expensive subdivisions in low or medium density so that rich boomers and corporations can buy them and rent them out is not "affordable housing". Nor is it in any way preparing Ontarians for a climate resilient future. More bedroom communities populated by commuter drones will only perpetuate the status quo, which is currently stuck decades behind. I want our province to be a leader on both the national and global stage when it comes to being innovative and proactive for dealing with the issues that impact our people. The Green Belt is vital to our ability to afford healthy food, for our farmers to make a living, for our forests and waterways to support our ecosystems. Flooding is becoming more frequent. Wind storms more frequent. Storms in general more intense, weather less predictable, and heat waves more unbearable. When are we going to actually see our government live up to their word of being "for the people" and actually work to protect us? When will everyday Ontarians who work so hard to survive feel the same level of support that developers get from the Ford government? When will we see real, well-thought-out solutions for complex problems instead of quick "fixes" that sound good on paper, but in reality fall incredibly short? When will this government realize that once we lose our natural history, it is gone forever?
