I am concerned that what is called duplicated requirements are not duplicate requirements in the Provincial Policy Statement and A Place to Grow Act. This government has weakened environmental oversight and eliminated existing protections for wetlands. It has also eliminated endangered species protections. Legislation such as the More Homes Built Faster Act, 2022 eliminated land conservation and pollution from consideration when Conservation Authorities look at permits so there is a lack of credibility when this proposal says that it wants to Continues to protect the environment . Offsetting has been shown not to work where it has been applied. Its unclear what will be changed
Questions
1) I don’t believe there should be a stream lined process however, there should be greater protection for wetlands and natural heritage as is and increased density
2) Land use polices should include the use of easements elimination of minimum parking and not going into the Greenbelt or areas of natural heritage
3) Density targets which should be higher should remain
4) Exceptions for agriculture in wetland protection should be removed
Housing can be improved with a tax on people who own 3 or more properties and support for non profits
