I am really concerned about the government's plans to cancel the Cap and Trade policies for a number of reasons:
1. There seems to have been no consultation on this move. It appears to be more of an ideological move as opposed to being based on an body of information about effective ways to reduced Ontario's carbon footprint.
2. Although the government has promised an alternative policy to the Cap & Trade program, why wasn't it revealed before the decision to scrap the Cap & Trade? The Premier has been very vocal about any attempt to mitigate the effects of carbon producers and it is hard to imagine the government will take real action on carbon reduction.
3. Clearly this Bill will cost Ontario taxpayers millions in compensation payments. Where is the government's pledge on fiscal responsibility?
4. Because of this backward step on carbon mitigation, Ontario, will lose its edge as a developer of green energy industries and the prospect of a rich form of job-creation.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment,
