Bill C4 removes Ontario from the forefront of the clean energy economy in North America. Cap and Trade is not a perfect solution to our emissions challenges but it did provide stimulus in the right direction. Furthermore, dismantling C&T is an incredibly expensive, destructive and wasteful exercise.
Cap and Trade and the Carbon Tax are the two major recognized measures of putting a price on carbon emissions. Putting a price on something influences human behaviour. Therefore, to reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere it is imperative that the government makes polluters and/or consumers of carbon pay. It is obvious, it is painful, it is necessary.
To dismantle C&T and publicly denounce the Carbon tax is the most irresponsible and reprehensible stand for our government to take.
