As someone who lives directly across from the property YORK1 has purchased, how can this proposal go through? They are planning on putting a landfill less than a kilometre from my front door. At the very least, an environmental assessment needs to be done. The water from Molly's Creek, which flows directly into the Sydenham is used for fishing, swimming, boating and kayaking. Not only would this waterway be contaminated, but it flows into Mitchell's Bay which is used for fishing, boating, kayaking and swimming.
How can a landfill be placed legally within a km of my front door? A public school? There is nothing positive about this proposal from the outrageous amount of pollution it will cause, to our basic human rights of not having to live next to a landfill.
YORK1 we don't care that you have contracts you've signed. We don't want the waste from other areas. Put it in your own area. If it's so easy to place a landfill less than a km from a community, look at your own area for outdated permits. Pollute your own waterways that you fish in, kayak in, swim in and boat in. Go swim in the asbestos you want to place in our waterways. Eat the contaminated fish you poisoned. Clean up the dead wildlife your company killed.
I plead to anyone that can stop this company, please do what you can. This proposal is devastating to our community. We grow food for other people to eat. If our land is that insignificant to those who think they can just come in and pollute it, then those individuals should just stop eating.
