This development is going on to a previous Airport and Military base. There is overwhelming concern over Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) being present, and most likely in high concentrations due to the fact that both Airports and Military bases have shown individually to contain PFAS in ground contamination throughout Canada.
This government should be mandating strict environmental assessments of this land including PFAS testing to minimize health risks to potential future residents. As I write this, the current developers have already set up children's play areas on these contaminated lands.
In closing, it is highly unlikely that this land is not free of PFAS - it must be tested, and the results must be disclosed to the public. Requests of the municipal government have gone unanswered. Just because there is a lack of housing and an urgency, it should not be at the behest of human and animal life.
