This proposal is for a new Environmental Compliance Approval (sewage) for the establishment of sewage works for the treatment and disposal of domestic sewage effluent for Searchmont Ski Resort Inc., located approximately 35 kilometres northeast of Sault Ste. Marie on Highway 532. Searchmont Ski Resort is located at 103 Searchmont Resort Road, in Ontario.
The resort currently uses wastewater treatment comprised of a septic system, holding tanks and a subsurface disposal bed. The existing system does not have adequate capacity to accommodate current and potential future flows. This requires that additional wastewater treatment capacity be developed.
The proposed sewage works will include an on-site sequencing batch reactor (SBR) wastewater treatment plant, with a rated capacity of 180 cubic metres per day. The treated effluent will be discharged to the Goulais River.
