Why consultation isn't required
This notice is to inform the public about the 2017 Minister’s Annual Report on Lake Simcoe. The Lake Simcoe Protection Act, 2008 requires the annual reports to be published on the environmental registry.
This notice does not contain any policy changes to the Lake Simcoe Protection Act, Regulations under the Act, nor the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan or any of its Strategies.
Bulletin details
The Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks released the 2017 Minister’s Annual Report on Lake Simcoe on February 15, 2019. The report describes the measures taken in 2017 to implement the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan and the advice the Minister obtained from the Lake Simcoe Science Committee and the Lake Simcoe Coordinating Committee.
Actions taken to protect lake Simcoe
- providing a testing location for the George Barley Water Prize, an international competition to develop technologies to remove and recover phosphorus from fresh water bodies
- conceptualizing a model to estimate phosphorus levels using satellite imagery
- developing an online tool to help developers install Low Impact Development features
- researching the major groundwater recharge and discharge functions in Lake Simcoe
- developing a Sediment and Erosion Control Program for construction operations
- educating ice anglers to help prevent the spread of invasive species
- completing a two-year initiative to assess the farmers’ willingness to adopt nutrient management and other on-farm projects to use water and energy more sustainably.

- news releases
- notifications sent to stakeholders.
